FRUSTUM
The Frustum Collection is cast from what appears to be a very simple mould that draws a vertical plane from an oval base to an oval lip. However, because the ovals are different sizes and at 90 degrees to one another, there is a tension in the form that hides latent movement.
The smooth surface of each pot is hand painted with patterns that expose this movement, and give voice to the gently twisting spirals hidden in the form, generating rhythmic geometries that weave over the face of each piece. On a number of pots, the pattern has been folded, like a piece of Origami, over the rim and into the inside of the vase. Texture is added to the surfaces through the combination of exposed underglazes, matt glazes and shiny glazes.
The Frustum Vases stand 300mm tall.
