Originally trained as an architect, Caroline Cole is a British, contemporary ceramic artist, living and working in South London.

She started making ceramics in 2012.  She is largely self-taught but, perhaps because of her architectural background, she has been able to carve out a unique approach to making that balances art and science in her exploration of form, surface, colour and texture.

 She has had two solo shows, in 2023 and in 2026, both at the OXO Gallery on London’s South Bank.  The first, ‘Order through Pattern’, focused on the confluence of shape, colour and surface; the second, ‘Schema’, pushed her approach to these primordial elements further, probing the origins of harmony within nature’s structures.

In 2024, she was selected by Lady Jill Ruddock to exhibit in ‘The Second Half’ show in London.

In 2023, she was part of a show at the Cambridge Contemporary Art gallery in Cambridge, UK, called ‘Focus on Ceramics’. 

In 2018, her work was included in the ‘Best of British’ fair in Shanghai, China.

In 2016 she was the featured maker at the Bevere Gallery in Worcester, UK. 

In 2014 and 2018, she exhibited in London with her sister, paper artist, Sophie Arup at the Cole Gallery in Brick Lane and then at the Herrick Gallery in Piccadilly.  The shows were called ‘Sisters 1 & 2’.

Her work has been featured in Ceramic Review, German Vogue and Real Estate Frontiers and is included in the permanent exhibition at the Botree Hotel in Marylebone in London.  It is also held in private collections in the USA, Dubai, Hong Kong, mainland Europe, Australia and the UK.

Alongside her ceramics practice, Caroline has worked for many years as a consultant in the design and real estate sectors. She founded Colander Associates in the late 1990s to help designers run their businesses better, and assist those who commission buildings to select the best design teams for their projects. As a result, she has inspired many of the UK’s most successful architects to develop their practices and has worked alongside many highly influential developers and building owners in both the private and public sectors, helping them formulate their approach to architecture.
